Cast & Crew Press Screenings Photo Gallery Production Notes Contact About the Film Home One of the challenges in casting for SPLITTING HAIRS was to find an actor who could portray both the emotional as well as the physical characteristics found in the lead role of Edgar Bosley, a lonely sap suffering from male pattern baldness. Actor Todd Stoudnor not only endured the cosmetic transformation (he let us shave his head!), but also convincingly captured the delicate tonal balance necessary for this dark satire. Shot over an 8-day period, SPLITTING HAIRS was filmed on locations in Los Angeles and was the last production to film on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Backlot at Fox Studios in Santa Monica, California.
The innovative, albeit, unorthodox surgical procedure, Follicular Transgression, a.k.a. “the miracle cure” depicted in SPLITTING HAIRS was created by Rob Hall and his team at Almost Human Special Makeup EFX (Sarah Connor Chronicles). The gruesome and barbaric surgery was captured on screen using a combination of prosthetic special makeup, a life-like surgical bust cast from the actor (Boris Vatsky) and a pumping system for theatrical blood.http://www.almosthuman.net/shapeimage_12_link_0
Once Edgar commits to having the surgery, the nasty business of getting a donor scalp must be accomplished. The fight scene between Edgar and the homeless man was choreographed by stunt man Ryan Watson (Spiderman 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End). Watson also played the brutish bum.
Emmy Award winning VFX company, Zoic Studios, created a number of visual effects for SPLITTING HAIRS utilizing green screens, digital compositing and CG animation.
